About Me
I develop Machine Learning systems and software tools to disrupt industries and solve global problems in healthcare, climate and beyond. I am a Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, Canada’s top engineering school. Currently, I’m at TELUS, using computer vision to precisely isolate and analyze objects in satellite images to monitor deforestation and natural disaster impacts.

I recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, and serve as a member of the World Economic Forum's AI Council. My work has been featured on Forbes, Microsoft, and I've spoken to over 30,000 people at various tech conferences.
I co-founded The HopeSisters, a non-profit dedicated to supporting children in foster care and spreading hope to vulnerable communities. During the pandemic, we delivered 5,000+ HopeBags to children in care and 12,000+ handwritten cards to seniors.

Previously, I conducted research under Dr. Ghosh at MIT, developing machine learning models to explore the relationship between the gut microbiome and schizophrenia. At Procter & Gamble, I worked on the Always YOU app, building the front-end for a menstrual and well-being tracker created in collaboration with Thrive Global. I also worked on a chatbot for Vitala Global’s abortion care tool, enhancing accessibility for users worldwide.
Featured Projects
Updated as of 10/2024
I developed the front-end for the Always YOU app’s well-being feature using HTML and CSS, and conducted data analytics to enhance personalized health insights for users. As well, I consulted on strategies to make the app more inclusive for youth users and presented recommendations to the FemCare team, including the President of P&G FemCare and Arianna Huffington.

Collaboration with Microsoft AI for Good Lab

I collaborated with Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab to analyze how maternal smoking during pregnancy impacts the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID). I developed logistic regression and generalized additive models to evaluate risk factors, identifying how changes in smoking behaviors influenced outcomes. This project strengthened my expertise in data analysis.
Detecting suicidal ideation in social media content

I developed a patent-pending AI model to detect suicidal ideation in social media content, supported by Microsoft and multiple mental health organizations. Combining Natural Language Processing and a geographic modeling approach, the system analyzes linguistic patterns and location-based trends to identify at-risk individuals. Learn more here.
AI chatbot for abortion support tool, Internship w/ Aya Contigo

I developed an AI chatbot for the Aya Contigo reproductive health app, using a random forest-based predictive model to provide personalized health guidance and resources. This innovation improved patient support, enhanced user experience, and reduced operational costs by automating interactions efficiently.
Stress Detection using ECG waves w/ Neurable Enten & RNN’s

For the hackathon project on stress detection using ECG waves, I implemented a two-part system integrating Neurable Enten's advanced sensors for accurate ECG data capture and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for dynamic pattern analysis. The clean ECG signals were fed into a custom-designed RNN, trained to detect variations in heart rate variability (HRV) and other cardiac parameters indicative of stress.
Mental Health Resource Chatpot w/ NLP & Tensorflow

I created an educational mental health chatbot, Serenity, leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) and a Deep Neural Network to deliver accurate and context-aware responses. Using intent classification and lemmatization techniques, I trained the chatbot with a custom dataset to recognize patterns in user queries and provide information on mental health disorders and support strategies.
